Fried Oyster Omelette (Or Luak/ Or Chien)

When I was young, whenever my parents bring us out for dinner at the hawker center, dad will always order this Oyster Omelette for the family to share, a very good side dish to go with noodle or rice dishes.

I bought two packets of frozen oysters from the Korean supermarket not long ago with this dish in mind, with the garlic I planted in my front yard finally growing tall enough for harvest, I made this omelette for brunch and hubby and I both enjoyed it very much!

Note: The original recipe for this omelette is to use garlic green instead of spring onion.

Pickled Celtuce/Guan Tao Cai Sim

When I was young, whenever I was under the weather, my mom or grandma will make some simple rice congee to go with Canned pickled celtuce, it is supposed to be light on the tummy and helps to get well.

Grandma's version is a little fancier, she will mince some meat with this pickle and make a simple meat sauce, it is still one of my favorite dishes to go with congee, one that I missed whenever I am not feeling well.

Tau Yu Bak 【

I gotta insist that one pronounce the name of this dish in Hokkian (Minnan), light soy sauce is called "Tau Yu" and meat in Hokkian is called "Bak" thus the name of this dish, Tau Yu bak means meat braised in light soy sauce! It is a very typical Hokkian/Minnan dish and the recipe is often heritage and passed down from mother to daughter, so you can now guess where I got mine from!

The preparation is a little similar to its close cousin  "Hong Shao Rou/红烧肉", but Tau Yu Bak has thinner gravy and is almost always prepared with fried tofu cutlets and hard boiled eggs.

My dad's favourite way to enjoy this dish is to drizzle the gravy over steamed rice and mixed before digging in. I did the same for my son A and he had a big bowl of it!
