According to my mum in law, my husband dislikes brinjal as a little boy, on the contrary, I am a brinjal lover, and could eat it in whichever way it is cooked.

Cumin Mutton 孜然羊肉片
I never used to prepare mutton at home until hubby developed
liking of mutton when he was in Salt Lake City for a short project last year.
Where one of his colleagues brought him to a place for lamb curry. He came home
requesting for mutton curry.
I didn't see mutton when I shopped for groceries last week, but I found this
thinly sliced mutton. So, I made this Cumin Mutton instead, N finished the
whole plate and asked for more!
我们家本来是不吃羊肉的,自从老公上一次到盐湖城出差跟着两个吃荤的同事去吃了两次羊肉咖喱之后,就一直要我给他做一次羊肉。
周末去中国超市没有看见有羊肉块,只找到切得超薄的羊肉片,就买了回来,给他做孜然羊肉。

【港式豉油皇炒面】Hong Kong Style fried Noodle
多年以后第一次去香港玩,一下机马上去吃了一个豉油皇炒面加白粥,把我当时的男朋友笑得不行。
For those who grew up watching Hongkong series (like me), it will be hard not to notice this fried noodle on every Hongkong movie's breakfast table.
I was so curious about its taste that this was the first thing I ordered in the Dim sum place when I first visited Hongkong!

Black Sesame Rice Flour Steamed Bun
This pau is really a result of my so-called "creativity" I was craving for some pau for breakfast and after making the fillings, realised that I have only about 1.5 cups of all purpose flour left!
And then I saw this rice flour that I bought long back still well packed, and the wheat germ I could never make enough stuff to exhaust...
To my delightful surprise, this pau turn out so well, yumm!

Braised Chicken Gizzard 【卤鸡胗】
I like to use it to braise eggs, chicken, pork and tofu, Chicken Gizzard is a very good choice for braising too!
我打小很喜欢吃卤菜,尤其是鸡胗这些比较有嚼劲的卤料。后来家里渐渐就不怎么吃内脏类的食材了。
这几天都是我一个人吃饭,想想很久没吃卤鸡胗了,买了盒鸡胗回来用我家的老卤卤好了放到冰箱里。接下来可以热了吃、可以凉拌,也可以炒菜,也算是解决一个人吃饭的好办法喔。

【红烧鱼】Braised Fish
红烧的做法是我出国后才跟着网友们一起学做的,我很喜欢,所以现在时不时都会做一次。
This is not a very common way of cooking fish in my family, we normally just steamed the fish or pan fry it and eat the fish with Soy sauce and a little vinegar, I learnt this braised fish dish from my friend on a forum and love the taste of it !

Tomato Gobi Ki Bhaji (Cauliflower with Tomato) 【番茄花菜】
I made this dish for my parents in law the day before they were leaving US for India. It is quite different than the normal Cauliflower dish we usually have.
公公婆婆其实极好相处,虽然婆婆有时会有点情绪化,可还是一个非常明理的婆婆,我们的互动越来越好了,家务事上也合作无间,喜欢花草的她在我们家门口的一点点土地上种了好多的东西,才刚都发芽呢,她就要离开了。还殷殷的一直要我照顾好,下次记得拍照给她看呢。
公公是一个有智慧而且很好相处的老人,一点都不麻烦晚辈,他自己会找活动,想要什么也总是直接的开口,省却我很多猜疑的麻烦。公公非常的疼我,老公让我不高兴的时候公公总会走过来摸摸我的头,然后再背后把老公教训一顿。
这个月下来除了开始的几天,家里几乎都是婆婆在掌厨,我就在厨房里当递盘子洗菜的小妹,今天趁老人在忙着收拾行李的当儿,我下厨做了一个菜,一边做一边感觉无限的惆怅。
我没有想到,原来我们渐渐地已经培养出那么深厚的,亲情。。。

Whole Wheat Naan
My bread machine was literally busy everyday for the past few weeks. I use it not only for bread, also chapati dough and naan dough.
It is a perfect tool for making home-made naan, this time I modify the recipe a little, adding whole wheat flour and handful of wheat germ to make it a little healthier.
We liked the out come, and so does our guest!

这是跟网友爱厨学的小吃。是台湾那里喝泡沫红茶时很多人喜欢点的小食,我每次做老公都可以一边看电影一边把一磅的毛豆都搞定。
今年春天的时候我在后院种了十几棵的毛豆,长得非常好,结的豆荚都很饱满。今天收一盆回来做这个凉拌毛豆吃。

Healthy Bread (Water Roux Starter)
I am getting better with bread I guess.
Today I decided to make multigrain healthy bread, that was the whole purpose learning to make bread at home actually, to be able to make healthier bread.
Multigrain would be tougher I am sure.... I thus decided to knead the dough longer, and raise the dough at low temperature (inside the fridge) overnight. This way the yeast could work on the dough slowly and will not over ferment and make it sourish.
The result was amazing, the bread turned out so soft and taste heavenly !

I bought a bread machine recently.
I have never made bread before, so I decided to start with something easier,
which is dinner rolls to pilot test the machine.
I do not have bread flour at home, so my first batch of dinner rolls are made
of all purpose flour.
买了一个面包机,就想先试试功能,不做太复杂的,就做简单的餐包。
家里没有高筋面粉,用的是普通面粉。方子是结合几个高手的,我随手记录一下。

Huat Kueh (发糕)
Today is the ninth day of Chinese New Year,the hokkian normally has to pray to the god of heaven (天公),We normally buy this huat kueh for the prayer, it symbolize prosperity and growth.
I didnt quite like the colouring part of the huat kueh bought, so I found this recipe online using the natural colour from the red rice wine lees. (The remains from making red rice wine).
The house smells so good when I steamed the kueh....
