The Chinese New Year of 2020 is a very difficult one for all the Chinese in China and around the world... I spent a lot of time following the news of the 2019 coronavirus, I cried reading some of the heroic acts of common people in, and around China. We are all common people trying hard to live a meaningful life...

Today is the last day of Chinese New Year, I decided to write a post on this beautiful Plum Blossom rice balls, with it I pray for safety and health for people in the world.

Happy Chap Goh Meh to all that are celebrating!

Ingredients:
1 cup Glutinous rice flour
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 tsp of Ang Chow  or a few drops of red food coloring

Rock sugar/sugar to taste

1. Knead the flour with warm water to form a soft dough, cover with clean cloth.

2. Divide the dough in half, add half tsp of Ang Chow to one of the portion and knead into pink/red color dough.

3. Roll the dough into small balls the size of pearls. Put 6 pink color balls around one white ones with the help of little water to stick them together. You can repeat these steps to make white flowers with red bud.

4. Lightly press the balls to flatten it to form the shape of plum blossom/sakura flower, use a tooth pick to make prints around the flower to make it looks even more like a blossom.

5. Bring a half pot of water to boil, add some brown sugar/sugar/rock sugar and 1-2 pieces of ginger if you like.

6. In another pot, bring a half pot of water to boil, drop the flower shape rice balls into the water and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the rice balls started floating on water.

7. Take the cooked rice balls out and place into the syrup, serve warm.
