Khichdi (Indian Lentil with Rice)

As a Chinese, I always get to eat mum's porridge when I was sick as a child, and a bowl of hot porridge always comfort me and made me feel better.

For the same reason I always try to figure what comforts NS when he is not well... and I guess..... Kichdi is the answer!

Ingredients:(For Two)
1/2 cup of brown and white Basmati rice
1/4 Cup of Toor Dal or Moong dal
1/2 Bombay Onion
2 Green Chili (Optional)
5-6 Curry leaves (Optional)
1/2 tsp Cummin Seed
1/2 tsp Mustard Seed
1/4 tsp Garam masala
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1 1/2 - 2 cup water
Salt to taste ( around 1 tsp)

Wash the rice and lentil together, and chop the onion and chilli.

In a pressure cooker, add about 1 tsp of oil, stir fry onion and chili, add mustard seeds, cummin seeds and curry leaves, stir until fragrance/splutter. Now add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, and Garam Masala.

Now add the washed rice and  lentil.

Pour in 1 1/2 cup of water, if softer/more liquidized version is desire, use 2 cups of water, add salt to taste. Pressure cook for 10 minutes

Let the pressure gas release naturally, and its done!

To be serve with Indian Pickles and Plain Yoghurt.
