Pisang Goreng (Banana Fritter)




Fried banana is a very common snacks back home, a sweet childhood memory of mine. I would asked some money from grandpa during those hot afternoon and ran to the small Malay stall that sells fried banana and Cendul.

I would buy a packet of cold cendul and some fried bananas, walking home slowly and enjoy the hearty snack.

Ingredients:
5-6 Ripe banana  (Make sure it is not overripe)

For the batter:
1/4 cup of all purpose flour
1/2 cup rice flour
2 tsp Sesame
1/4 tsp Baking Soda Added into 1/2 cup of water (+- 1 tbsp)
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt

Note:If you like it taste better, use milk or coconut milk.



1. Whisk together all ingredients listed under batter, leave it aside at least 30 minutes. Heat up 2-3 inches of oil in a cooking pan.

2. Peel banana, and slice the banana into 3 equal parts lengthwise. Dip those banana into the batter, fry it in hot oil until golden brown in colour. Drain on a wire rack or paper towel.

Snack from the tropics... mind one?

  1. What type of bananas did you used? I used the regular supermarket Dole bananas and it falls apart when I fried them :(
