Green Chickpea is the raw chickpea (Channa/Chole) in pods, it is easier to prepare compared to the dried version and very nutritious!
Being in NJ means we got choices of very nice and fresh Indian food ingredients, which of course includes this beautiful and delicious raw/green chickpeas!
Ingredients:
200-300 gms of Green chickpeas in pods
1/2 Bombay Onion (Chopped)
20 curry leaves
1/2 medium size tomato (Chopped)
1 green chili(chopped)
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
Seasoning:
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
A pinch of chili powder(Optional)
The fresh pods are very beautiful....
Remove pods, clean the chickpeas, and prepare all other ingredients accordingly.
In a cooking pan, add 2 tbsp oil, stir in chopped onion, curry leaves, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and chopped green chili, stir until fragrant.
Add the chickpeas, turn to medium heat, stir well, and cover with lid, cook for 3-4 minutes. Now season the chickpeas with all seasoning listed, continue cooking for 1-2 minutes. Mixed with chopped tomatoes before serving.
It could be a good starter or snack too!
