Rice Cooker Chicken Rice 电饭煲蒜香鸡饭

The original recipe was posted on Wenxuecity years back as rice cooker chicken and immediately became a hit, as it is very easy to follow and is really tasty...

I was in India then and was fascinated by the recipe, as I could find all the ingredients easily, I later modified it a little and added rice, it immediately turned into a one pot meal, so simple and yum!






Chicken Drumstick/thigh (4)
8-10 cloves/ 1/3 cup of chopped/minced garlic
2-3 shallot (chopped) Optional
1 tsp + 1/2 tsp salt
a pinch of black pepper powder
5-6 slices of ginger root
1/2 tsp Sesame oil
2 cup Rice (Washed and drained)
2 1/2 cup Water


鸡腿/thigh (4 块)(可去皮)
8-10 瓣蒜瓣 (切碎)或 1/3 杯 蒜蓉
2-3 只 红葱 (切碎) Optional
1 tsp + 1/2 tsp 盐 
5-6 片姜片
1/2 tsp 麻油
2 cup 白米 (洗净备用)
2 1/2 cup 水

1. Clean the chicken pieces, add minced garlic, a pinch of black pepper powder and 1 tbsp of salt, mixed well and marinates for at least one hour, preferable overnight.

2. In a rice cooker, add 1/2 tsp of sesame oil, stir in chopped shallot and heat up the rice cooker, cook the shallot for a few minutes until translucent, add marinated chicken and ginger, cover and press cooking button again.

3. When the cooking process is done and the rice cooker showing warming signal, add in the rice , 1/2 tsp salt and water. Stir well and press cooking button again, let the rice cooked until the signal turned to warming again, wait for 5 minutes before serving.

1. 把鸡肉清理干净,倒入蒜蓉和1 tsp 盐和一点点黑胡椒粉,拌匀,腌一个小时以上 (我一般腌过夜)。

2. 白米淘洗干净沥干水备用。电饭煲里加入半茶匙的麻油,加入切好的红葱煸炒至香味溢出,再把腌好的鸡肉和姜片倒入,盖好,启动开煮。

3. 等电饭煲由煮饭键跳到保温的时候,打开,稍微拌匀,倒入白米,1/2 tsp 盐和 2 1/2 cup的水,再一次按煮饭键,待电饭煲再次跳至保温键的时候,稍等5分钟再打开,把鸡肉和米饭拌匀,就可以吃了。


I like to serve my rice with some sliced cucumber and this Hainanese Chicken Rice Chili Sauce.

  3. what type of rice cooker should I use? the Japanese rice cooker which comes with multiple settings or the taiwanese Tatung rice cooker that comes with an inner pot which requires water between inner and outer pot?

    1. you do need to use the type of Japanese rice cooker for this dish, tatung don't seems to work very well for this recipe.
