Masala Arbi (Arvi/Colocasia) 【香辣芋艿 】


I was pretty surprised to see this small yam in India market when I lived there. I bought it to made yam rice but it didn't turn out to be the same like the normal yam will do.

I had this Arbi again at my mother in law's place later, it was made into Masala Arbi, it tasted really good and had since became one of my favorite foods.

芋艿在我家乡是中秋节煮了沾糖吃的,平时不怎么去做它,所以我一直以为它是中秋的应节食品而已。在印度居住时,第一次在菜市场看见它时我挺惊讶的,我还以为这东西只有中国人才有呢!

印度人做这个芋奶的方式跟我们完全不一样,他们把它做成香辣的菜肴,也很好吃喔!



Ingredients:
4-5 Arbi (Small Yam)
1/2 tomato (chopped)
1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1 tsp Ajwain (Carom Seeds)
1 tsp turmeric powder (Haldi)
1/2 tsp of chopped green chilies
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1/4 cup plain yogurt (Dahi)
Salt to taste
2 tbsp of chopped Coriander leaves

材料:
 4-5只 芋艿
1/2只 番茄,切碎
1 tsp 姜蒜蓉
1 tsp Ajwain/Carom Seeds/印度藏茴香
1 tsp 黄姜粉 
1/2 tsp Garam Masala 
1/4杯原味酸奶(Plain yogurt)
盐适量
2 大勺 切碎的 香菜/芫荽



1. Pressure cook or boil the arbi till tender (pressure cook for 2 whistles). Peel the skin off and cubed into bite size.

2. Heat up 2 tbsps of oil in a frying pan, fry Ajwain/carom seeds, chopped green chili and ginger garlic paste for about 30 seconds. Add tomato, fry for about 2 minutes, add in turmeric powder and stir for few seconds, add plain yogurt bring to boil and add garam masala and salt.

3. Add the Arbi pieces and cook until gravy thickened. Add Chopped coriander leaves before switching the stove off.

1. 首先把芋艿煮熟或者蒸熟,剥皮,切块。

2. 锅里下2大匙油,把Ajwain和姜蒜蓉爆香,然后加入切碎的辣椒及番茄,煸炒1-2分钟后加入酸奶,煮滚,加入所有的香料粉和盐调味。

3. 加入芋艿块,加盖稍微焖干后加入切碎的芫荽叶。就好了。
 
Serve with Rice or Chapati.
