Palak Moong Dal (Sprouted Moong bean Spinach Soup)


Pulses when slightly sprouted is at its nutrients height and is generally known to be good for health, together with spinach, this dish makes a complete and nutritious vegetarian dish!

Ingredients:(4-5 servings)
1 cup of moong bean (Soaked for 24 hours until it is lightly sprouted, change water once or twice in between)
1 bunch of spinach (Washed and chopped)
1/2 bombay onion (Chopped)
1 tsp of ginger garlic paste
1/8 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
2 tbsp Butter

Seasoning:
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
Salt to taste




1. Pressure cook moong bean with a pinch of turmeric powder, half of the chili powder and some salt with 2 cups of water, let it whistle twice and let out the gas naturally.

2. After the bean is ready, in another cooker, heat up 2 tablespoon of oil, and add mustard & cumin seeds, stir it a little or until it cracks, now add chopped onion, stir for a while until it turn translucent, add chili powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder and mix well.

3. Add chopped spinach and stir well, pour in cooked moong bean, cover with lid and cook for 10 more minutes or till it reaches desire consistency. Season with salt.


Serve with a small piece of butter..

  1. wow, great recipe! I have a 1 kg bag of moong bean to finish and i got tired of making it into a salad. Will try this for sure! :)
